The Orchestra of

St Nicholas Guisborough

The orchestra at St. Nicholas Church Guisborough is a small ensemble of instrumentalists who enjoy accompanying approximately one service per month. This is often, but not solely, the All Age service on the third Sunday.

We currently have members playing the following instruments: violin viola, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, recorder, piano, organ, keyboard, euphonium, English concertina, guitar and drums. We normally rehearse on the Thursday evening prior to the third Sunday, at 7pm in church. Rehearsals and performances are conducted by our musical director Christopher Nixon.

We accompany both traditional and more modern hymns, in addition to playing for Eucharistic settings. We are currently adding Taizé music to our repertoire. We sometimes play for concerts and have a small, but growing, repertoire of well known classical pieces, such as Pachelbel's Canon in D and Vivaldi Four Seasons that we can play for events such as weddings. We often play in bespoke, smaller chamber ensembles for events. For examples, we will play at the confirmation, the harvest service, the remembrance concert and we will accompany The Snowman film for three nights in mid-December.

We are always looking to welcome new members. If you are a competent instrumentalist and would like to join us, please message us on the contact form below for an informal chat and information regarding our next rehearsal.

Typically an instrumentalist of grade 3 and above would cope with playing at services and players of grade 5 and above for the more tricky orchestral music.

Thank-you for your message. I will get back to you as soon as possible.
